Being a quick and easy to prepare foodstuff, Maggie noodles has remained the favorite of many for years now. In times of hunger, whenever we want a fast and tasty preparation, this 2 minute wonder still remains the first choice of most of us. Particularly popular with kids and students, Maggie is certainly one of the most well known and highly consumed food items in the modern times. However, in spite of all its benefits there are certain questions about its impact on the health which need to be answered. Let us look at some of the major problems associated with the consumption of Maggie.
1.Low in nutrition
Maggie is obviously low in nutritive value. Although it is quick and easy to prepare, it does not provide much nutrients to our body. Rich in carbohydrates, sodium and other food additives, Maggie is extremely low on necessary constituents such as fiber, vitamins and minerals. Another very dangerous health aspect of sodium lies in the impact it has on our cardiac health. Sodium increases the volume of blood which further means more work for the heart and more pressure on blood vessels. Maggie noodles contain considerable amounts of trans-fats. Trans-fats are created by adding hydrogen to liquid vegetable oil. This is done to make the fat more solid and increase its shelf life. Trans -fats are twice as difficult for the body to dissolve as saturated fats. Trans-fats have a direct effect on the cholesterol levels. Basically, cholesterol can be divided into good and bad cholesterol depending upon whether they are transported back to the liver or whether they are transported throughout the body. 7.Unhealthy bones and teeth
Due to the alarming lead content in Maggie, it is also potentially dangerous for the teeth and the bones. WHO has said that lead gets stored in the teeth and bones after consumption which causes decay in the teeth and weakening of the bones. Moreover, the lead stored in the bone might get re mobilized into blood during pregnancy, making the fetus vulnerable to harm.
Mono-sodium glutamate is a flavor enhancing substance present in most packed items including Maggie. It is commonly known as Ajinomoto. Young children can absorb 4-5 times the amount of ingested lead as that absorbed by adults, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Thus, children are especially vulnerable to lead poisoning. Lead hampers brain development in children and causes behavioral problems. It might also cause kidney damage, slow rate of growth and aggression in children.

Instead of Maggie, we have many other healthier alternatives. We can go for snacks like upma, vada, oats which are tasty as well as nutritious.
