As has always been said, its people of these two age groups who are too similar to go without a notice. One section is just about to embark on the journey that the other is almost done with, so the worries, per say, are at their minimal best. The former is at their exploring best and the latter at their reminiscing best. So, with that kind of a combination come some really interesting similarities that no one can possible disagree with. Here, have a look:
1. Curious Nuts in a Basket of Dry Fruits
Well, yes, that’s one delicious way of putting the picture in one’s head but no, it is not at all as pleasurable as eating cashews without an end. However, it definitely is much like having a tough time cracking the nuts! There’s no bar when it comes to how curious a tiny little kid or an old person can be. From what’s inside a box , for instance, to why a person is what he/ she is, why does he/ she does what he/ she does or what does a certain new product do, how does any new electric appliance work – they basically want to know it all and no, just a sentence about it won’t do much good. It ought to be an essay with demonstrations or enactment (if needed) and clearly, voice modulation equals extra bonus (along with the perk of having the attention of an otherwise wandering mind!). If that was not enough, these cute (and sometimes just a tad bit annoying) nut cases also need a constant reminder of what they were told, lest they forget it and you have to go through the entire drill all over again.
2. No Heart-to-Mouth Filter
As much as a good thing it is, knowing that in a way the person is being honest, sometimes neither kids and nor the old people do realize what they are saying, where they are saying and to whom they are saying any particular thing. Often this results in an awkward situation for other people around and the accompanying family member/ person is left unsure of how to carry on with the conversation. The brighter side, however, ensures they always have someone around them to talk to and they never shy away from telling you exactly how they feel about anything, even better – they would make sure you know what their say is in any matter!
3. Lots of Age Specific Food & extra Multivitamins!
These are the two age groups that require a lot of special attention nutritionally and on the basis of convenience of consuming a particular kind of food with respect to their comfort and liking! Also, both of them get bored with a monotonous food routine pretty easily, so the caring party has to make sure of the variety and flavor of their diet along with taking the chewing abilities of the person in concern. Making them eat an array of multivitamins / protein drinks and other recommended healthy stuff is a task of its own! Trust a kid or an aged person to throw a tantrum or to not consume anything because of a strange, unlikely reason that is totally not called for!
4. Balance Issues
In two words – They Fall, a lot; kids because of not being able to stay at a spot for long enough and for being a constantly vibrating energized and restless combination of atoms that bounce off all the imaginable and unimaginable places in a room and old people because of perhaps staying at a step or a position for too long while moving or getting up. They need someone to check on them every second minute, lest they get lost or are difficult to spot! Constant vigilance is a must for them.
5. Persuasion Issues
When they have their own perception of any particular thing, it is hard to make them listen to a different point of view. It is set so deep in their mind that telling them otherwise is almost next to impossible. A variety of ways of telling a thing has to be introduced and has to be made as believable and interesting as possible. Expecting an objective answer also has a very bleak scope.
6. Overly Attached
So, be it towards something materialistic or towards a person in particular, kids and oldies both have this strange attachment with anything they start developing a liking for. It could be a kid’s love for its toy or that particular aunt / friend / person or an old person’s love for that one book / one shawl / one thing dear to them or that one grand kid / relative – it is next to impossible for them to imagine a minute without it. They easily get overly attached and it is no big secret! You could replace the same thing with a better version of it but that wouldn’t mean the same to them and they would still be longing for the same old thing.
7. Attention Lovers
This one point, one quality similar between kids and old people is something all other people have mixed feelings about. Why? Because at times you might find this quality adorable and at times it could irritate you out of your wits and nerves. From having weird antics like coughing in case of old people to crying in kids, they would go to any adorable length to have your attention. All they basically want is to know that they are loved and they hold a special place iny our heart – pretty harmless, isn’t it?
8. The Special Treatment
They are used to having things customized to their liking or in getting you to do things for them. End of tale. It is pretty obvious to them that their liking and preferences should come first whenever you decide for any big or small change. If you are shifting homes, does it have easy access? Is there space to play? Are there enough oldies and kids around to chat or play with? How far is the park?
9. Testing Your Patience
Being with a kid or an old person for a long measure of time teaches you more lessons than all your schooling and University studies combined. No kidding, you try various permutations and combinations about how to handle them at their worst and at their best, it is no less than a roller coaster ride on a loop. You have no option of ever taking a break from being understanding or being nice.
10. Cute as a bear!
So, yes, all the positives and negatives combined – you cannot top this one – i.e., they are cute as a bear! No matter how hard at times they make things for you or how at times they roll you over with sweetness, at the end of it all, they have pure hearts! Nothing is made-up when it comes to their behavior, as they are on the inside is how they let it show on the outside! As clear as a crystal and as lovable as a tiny little furry puppy! It is hard to not love them even with all their nuances.
