Or you might happen to see some little children shouting and merry making. A thought crosses your mind reflecting on how you were in those years of fun and frolic. Were you naughtier than the little mischief mongers of your society or did you make comparatively lesser noise while being absorbed in your daily games. In an instant you find yourself transported to a seemingly parallel world. It is however not a parallel but a long forgotten world. You then are forced to focus hard on the little details of your childhood just to analyse how you were. But once you do start with the reflection, then all of it comes across in a series of flash. Every treasured memory comes back to you, leaving you overwhelmed with a silly smile on your face. There isn’t a single but several mesmerizing aspects about childhood. Read the following article and look for yourself whether these are a part of your checklist or not.
10. Getting wet in the rain
There was barely any worry regarding getting ill back then. You were free of all sorts of responsibilities and all that really mattered was not being able to have a bath in the rain while you could see all your friends out there. It was obvious that some sort of punishment would come your way, but even that was worth the fun of being out in the pouring rain and getting drenched in it from head to toe. The best part followed when you would set your hand-made paper boat afloat in the deep puddles. Seeing it float for the longest time and beating the other boats in the race was no less than an accomplishment.
9. School days
As much as you hated it back then, today many of you would love going through a time travel and re-enter that phase once again. All you had to do was to pass from on level to the next. The baggage was not necessarily a boring one given the several amazing people that you had all around yourself, right from your favourite subject teacher to your fun loving science partner. If held in comparison to your college life, you would definitely see how uncomplicated your school life had been. It was probably your teenage instincts and hormones that made it look all dramatic and complicated. Analyzing it now, you for sure cherish it more.
8. Festive or family occasions
Wasn’t it always around festive occasions that the entire household would get together and celebrate the occasion. It seldom mattered whether it was on account of a religious occasion or some joyous news in the family. All that you really enjoyed and cared about was the immense energy and gaiety around with everybody busy in something or the other. There were mouthwatering delicacies to be eaten and beautiful dresses to be worn. And you belonged to the lucky lot had you a group of cousins of the same age.
7. The rare-to-meet relatives
Every family whether joint or nuclear has a few relatives who seldom show up on family occasions or meetings. In your heart of hearts many of you as a child looked forward to meet such relatives of yours. There was certainly a hidden motive that drove us to wait for them with patience. Their arrival meant the bringing of sweets and presents with them for you. They cooed and cuddled you. Often their warm hugs seemed more like a death embrace. Eventually all of that turned out to be worthy for by the end you got what you really were wishing for. You used to get your gift and off you went, away from the land of deathly cuddles and kisses. Kids benefit the most from such relatives, don’t they? You had your share.
6. Birthday celebrations
Birthdays were the most important day of the entire year. You were the VIP of that day. Everything, right from the flavor of your birthday cake to the birthday gift was of your choice. Your parents already knew what you wanted for you would start reminding them a month before itself. The presence of all your friends would be like cherry on top of a cake. You had to worry about nothing. All your ‘guests’ were served and attended by your parents. There surely wasn’t much difference between Christmas and your birthdays if you think of it now.
If you are a 90’s kid, you were definitely amongst the luckiest group of kids ever born. All the amazing shows like Tom and Jerry, Dexter, Powerpuff Girls, Winnie the Pooh made your childhood all the more memorable. The entire household knew the timings of your favourite cartoon shows. Nobody stopped you from viewing those knowing your love for the same. For many of us, Popeye the Sailor has been the sole reason that made us experiment with spinach in our childhood, whatever may the outcome be. Try imagining a childhood without these shows. You would definitely be thanking God by now and more so your parents.
4. Family picnics
Winter picnics on a slightly sunny day were amongst the few outings to look forward to. Every child, be it introvert or extrovert, enjoyed such outings to the fullest. There was ample space to run about or play with a ball along with your sibling and parents. If you try imagining or recalling that memory, you will not fail to admit that it was indeed beautiful. It would account for a very happy painting. The light eatables, lazing around in the fresh air beneath the clear blue sky were some of the things that made your family picnics a perfect one.
3. Playing dress-up
Most of us enjoyed dressing up as our favourite movie characters be it the princess with the long hair, Rapunzel or Superman. Some of us were even happy in imitating our parents and dressing up as them. How many times did your parents catch you red handed trying to fit in that long saree of your mother or that over-sized shirt of your father? Flip through some old albums and you would recollect what fun it used to be.
2. Making tents
Making a make shift tent on every weekend was no joke to begin with. It needed one to be persuasive when it came to ask for bed-sheets from your mother in order to make a tent. And once that ordeal was over, yet another one awaited. This was the real difficulty and you faced it with great valour. It took you hours before you could relax and eat some of your favourite snacks inside your newly made tent. No wonder, you were indefinitely proud of your hard work.
1. Visit to Grandparents’ house
Every trip to the grandparents’ place was no less than a vacation. You were treated as the guest of the house and spoiled beyond limits. Every morning called for the cooking of your desired breakfast and every night a yet another of your preferred dish was served on the dining table. You were narrated endless folk tales, parts of which you remember by heart even today. This was a different world all together where you wished to stay forever as your kind old folk would rarely be harsh on you. That was your little paradise.
It was because of these little yet priceless parts of your childhood that you have a smile today on your face when you think about it.
