Any human takes an average time of 21 days to pick up any habit but when that habit grows and makes you think that you can’t live without it, becomes an addiction. 10. Drug Addiction
Drugs are the chemical substance that stimulates your pleasure sense. A person gets addicted to the drug when he feels the need for drugs to make his brain work properly. Many drugs have a very bad impact on a person’s physical, mental and social life. People who are addicted to drugs feel that their body and mind will fail to function if they don’t use the drugs and the addiction grows. Drug addiction is a substance use disorder which usually comes under complex neurobiological disorder. It can kill a person if not treated on time.
9. Social Media Addiction
If you spend so much of your time on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter then you are a social media addict. It can affect your daily life very badly. It is not any disease but the habit of using so much social media (means phones/laptops) may lead to certain diseases. In the generation of constant updates, many people fall prey to checking their phones constantly. With time, it becomes compulsive.
People usually say that they use social media to stay updated or to be in contact and therefore they are not addicts. There is not any proper description of how to put a person in social media addict category. There are some people who drink tea or coffee more than the water they drink. Food is surely one of the addictions and you just can’t deny it. Many of us just gulp whatever we like without thinking about the quantity as well as quality. People who eat and take pictures of food call themselves ‘foodie’, ‘food lovers’ or ‘food bloggers’ but if they eat excessively and don’t exercise, they may suffer obesity. Higher Body Mass Index may lead to hypertension and heart problems.

Because of easy availability and legal use, alcohol is now a very common addiction for adults as well as teenagers. If taken in more than a little amount, a person may get addicted to alcohol. It can affect the mind and body of a person. It affects the dopamine production ability of a person which affect your emotional stability. The addicted person will feel happy only when he drinks. It is really difficult for a person to stop drinking once addicted as he may suffer from excessive sweating, irregular heartbeats and hallucinations.
There are many anti-smoking campaigns everywhere but still, smoking remained the worst addiction to leave. Though it is legal, it is a drug. When you are addicted to smoking, you start craving for nicotine and feel confused and disturbed when you don’t get it.
Nicotine is as addictive as heroin. When nicotine is not taken and you are addicted to it, you may suffer anxiety, irritability, and sometimes anger. Nicotine raises a person’s mood and heart rate for a shorter span but its bad effects are long term.
4. Painkillers Addiction
This is a very absurd addiction. Painkillers are made to decrease the pain, but they also create sense relief and that makes people addicted. It should be taken according to doctor’s prescription, but some people do it according to their need and wish. Depending on the painkiller is different as that may be needed to your body as doctors suggested but addiction is more about emotional stuff. It may lead to uncontrolled behaviour and you feel the need for increased dosage. Other than doctors, you start ordering it from online stores, stealing, buying from other people’s prescription etc. When you feel all this, its high time and you should visit a doctor.
3. Gambling Addiction
Gambling means pushing something on the stake and getting it twice/increased or nothing in a game. Once somebody wins here, that person gets addicted to it out of greediness. Gambling includes betting, cards, casinos, lottery tickets. The will to win more makes that person play more in the game. A person may lose everything in the game as there are many examples of it. This addiction leads to anxiety, depression, stress pale skin, weight gain, acne and dark circles.
Usually, women get linked with this addiction but that is a completely foolish stereotype. This addiction is independent of gender as any person can be a victim of it. Shopping causes the release of body hormone endorphins which makes us happy and consequently addicted to shopping. Some people literally splurge on shopping leaving all other needs aside. This may lead to a financial crisis which can later cause anxiety and stress. A person loses his/her control and stops worrying about other things which will need money and focuses only on buying clothes, shoes, and related things.
The commonest addiction these days is negativity. The hectic lifestyle, stress, and competition make people restless. They start doubting themselves and the negativity pops in. Whatever may be the situation, they only think about undesirable results. They always ignore the shiny side and worry about useless things. This attitude surely affects the person’s mind and body as depression, anxiety, existential crisis are the fruits of negative thinking.
It is easy to pick up any habit but when you start picking up habits make sure you pick up the good ones only. Some habits may turn into the worst addictions which might become difficult to leave. Such addiction may affect the health and wealth of a person. Social status and relationships with dear and near people of a person usually get ruined out of such addictions.
