17. Matsuo Mist-Town, Japan
Matsuo mist town also known as Matsuo ghost town is an abandoned residential complex located in Japan. In the 70s this place was the largest sulfur mine in East, until the residents suddenly abandoned this town. The reason for them moving away is still unknown, but one thing is certain, this is not a place to live. The creepiest part about this place is that it is constantly covered in mist, projecting a deathly silence all around. Many scientists have tried to determine as to what causes this mist and why does it cover this town all round the year, still no luck. Moreover, people find it extremely difficult to locate the place because of the mist shrouding the area as the visibility is next to nil.

Are you into weird stuff? Then do visit Akodessewa fetish market in Togo! This place is known for mummification, voodoo curses, potions, dark arts, anything you name it. Vendors here sell mummified remains of many animals, birds, fish etc and also trade in skeletal remains of them. This place is so creepy that tourists are warned not to visit this market if they value their lives, as this place is full of dark practices dealing in ancient magic and potions stuff. It might not be a surprise to find a witch or two there (just kidding, or am I?).

Now here is the creepiest part, these tunnels contain nearly 6 million dead bodies buried in them. This doesn’t mean that people were massacred and pushed down the tunnels but Paris was getting low on places for burial and they started burying their dead in large catacombs under the streets. Welcome to the world of Zombies! or rather the predicted place for a Zombie outbreak! Takakonuma Greenland Park is an amusement park which provides nothing but desolation and a full ride of horror. Known for many deaths and ever present fog, this place has been abandoned for decades. It used to be a very successful theme park but, now it is nothing but engulfed in wilderness. This place is so spooky that the area surrounding this park has also been abandoned, more likely due to its close proximity to Fukushima nuclear plant which is closed down due to a melt down. It is really sad that this place of recreation was shut down due to unexplained deaths, maybe the movie Final Destination was inspired by it?
13. Hellingly Hospital, Sussex
A real life haunted and depressing place where very few are brave enough to go. Hellingly hospital in Sussex, England is not a common hospital, it is a piece of hell itself! For over 90 years in the 20th century this hospital was an insane asylum, where patients were electrocuted and lobotomized on a daily basis. In 1994, this place was shut down after nearly a century of torture and pain, and now it has been abandoned since. This is not a place for tourists and has been deemed a nightmare of a place by the locals. Whatever may be the case, the name of the hospital is extremely suited.

The picture says it all. Mexico is a country which consists of variety of practices, culture and traditions; but some are downright horrifying! The island of dolls is one such place where weak hearted people are not welcome. This place is littered with hundreds of dolls tied to the trees and some are strewn on the ground. These lifelike dolls were made by a man named Julian Santana Barrera in the memory of a girl who drowned near his hut. The disturbing part is that he was driven insane in his later years and he eventually committed suicide. The ominous feeling of someone watching you is at its peak on this island. If you think that Egyptians were the only one who mummified their dead then you are totally wrong! Mummification has been practiced by many civilizations since time immemorial, one of them is Philippines. If you want to see mummies in real life then run to Kabayan, where it is literally overflowing with them. There are so many man-caves that you will get lost and not to forget that each of these caves are filled with mummified remains of the long dead. The creepiest part is that the mummies are very well preserved and are hauntingly beautiful.

This grand city is nearly 1341 years old and was submerged by the construction of Xin’an river hydropower plant. The city is now considered as unearthly due to its ghastly appearance under the water. The creepiest thing about this place is that many divers have reported strange lights being emitted from the city. Sources are not very reliable but scientists have tried to explain this phenomenon by linking it to a special type of moss which glows underwater.

Scientists have no explanation for this and a legend says that this heritage site was build by giants! thus the name.

Also known as dog’s suicide point, this bridge is ancient with over a 50 feet drop. It is a favorite suicide spot for dogs who are fed up of their masters, with over 600 counts of dogs committing suicide by jumping to their death. The creepiest part of this place is that some dogs who survive the fall, climb back up and try again!! Creepy isn’t it? Maybe you try walking your dog over there someday (just kidding!).

Muynak was once a huge port in the Aral sea, but it the sea has now been reduced to only 10% of the original volume of water. Cause? Russia diverting its waters for irrigation since 1960s.
